Dr. Alan Berko

Dr. Berko received his Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Orthodontics from the Goldman School of Graduate Dentistry at Boston University in 1981. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Case Western Reserve University in 1973 and his Doctor of Dental Science (D.D.S.) degree also from CWRU in 1977. Since 1981, Dr. Berko has attended a minimum of 20 hours of continuing education classes in orthodontics each year. Dr. Berko has been practicing orthodontics in Acton since 1981. Originally an associate of Dr. Jack Flanagan, Dr. Berko has been a sole practitioner since Dr. Flanagan retired in 1990. He is an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association and the Massachusetts Dental Society.     

 

Alan Berko

Alan Berko was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and moved with his family to New Jersey when he was five. He played baseball and soccer in high school where the soccer team was state champs for two of the three years he played. He continued to play soccer at CWRU until his junior year. Alan met his wife Peggy while in dental school and they moved to Massachusetts shortly after graduation. Dr. Berko practiced general dentistry for two years before he went back to school for two more years to specialize in orthodontics. Alan and Peggy have lived in Acton since 1981 and have two sons. Peggy works as an COTA in the Acton-Boxborough School's special needs program. Jeff graduated from Wesleyan University and now works at McLeans Hospital doing research. Alex is attending Quninnipiac University with a major in computer science. The Berko family enjoys the cultural activities of living near Boston and the changing seasons in New England with plenty of outdoor activity. Among his many interests and activities Alan enjoys golf, skiing, hiking and car racing. Indoors, he spends a lot of time reading. Dr. Berko has volunteered for many years as a coach for baseball and soccer and was a board member for the Acton-Boxborough United Way. He sponsors many town teams and activities.
